Abstract

Crossing the Bridge to Swaziland presents the story of five pre-service teachers and their faculty mentors who traveled to St. Philips Mission, Swaziland in January 2014.  There they worked collaboratively with Swazi teachers and staff running a week long camp with a business basics and motivational theme, for teenaged orphans and vulnerable children.  The cultural immersion and teaching experience in Swaziland had a profound effect on students’ confidence and competence working with English Language Learners, their faith in the power of cross-cultural relationships and their conviction that they can make a difference in the lives of their students.
